About SunShade FL

Florida's trusted directory for local awning installers — helping homeowners find the right shade solution since 2023.

Our Mission

SunShade FL was built by Florida homeowners for Florida homeowners. After struggling to find reliable awning installers in our own neighborhoods — and wading through out-of-state call centers and national aggregators that sent us unqualified contractors — we decided to build the resource we wished existed.

Our directory focuses exclusively on Florida, covering 80+ regions from Pensacola to Key West. Every installer in our database operates locally — these are real Florida businesses with real Florida licenses, familiar with our hurricane codes, our HOA landscapes, and our coastal climate challenges.

We don't take commissions from contractors. We don't sell leads to the highest bidder. Our goal is simple: give Florida homeowners the information they need to make a confident, informed decision about one of the most important outdoor improvements they'll make to their home.

How We Vet Our Contractors

🔍

License Verification

We cross-reference contractors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) to confirm active licensing. Unlicensed contractors are excluded from our directory, no exceptions.

🌩️

Florida Building Code Knowledge

Florida has some of the strictest building codes in the nation, especially in High-Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ) in South Florida. We prioritize contractors with documented experience in Florida's wind load requirements and permit processes.

Review Curation

We collect and display verified customer reviews from homeowners who have completed projects with each contractor. Reviews are checked for authenticity and relevance to awning or shade work specifically.

📍

Local Service Confirmation

Every contractor in our directory is confirmed to serve the regions they're listed under. We don't allow national call centers or out-of-state companies to represent themselves as local Florida installers.

Our content is written and reviewed by Florida homeowners and industry professionals with direct experience in awning selection, installation, and maintenance. We draw on real project data — permit records, contractor interviews, homeowner feedback — to produce guides that reflect the actual Florida market, not generic national averages.

We maintain our guides year-round, updating pricing data quarterly and reviewing building code information whenever Florida updates its construction standards. All pricing guides reflect 2026 market conditions.

Our Editorial Standards

  • Pricing data sourced from real Florida contractor quotes and permit records
  • Building code information verified against current Florida Building Code and county amendments
  • Contractor profiles reviewed for license status and local service area
  • No paid contractor placements — rankings reflect verified ratings and review data
  • Content updated regularly to reflect current market conditions and code requirements

Why Florida Awning Installation Is Different

Installing an awning in Florida is not the same as installing one in Ohio or Arizona. Florida presents unique challenges that require contractors with genuine local expertise:

Hurricane Season Requirements

South Florida's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) mandates Miami-Dade County product approvals for all permanent exterior structures. Only contractors familiar with NOA documentation and HVHZ wind load calculations can legally install permanent awnings in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Coastal Corrosion

Salt air from both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts accelerates corrosion dramatically. Standard galvanized hardware that lasts decades inland can fail within 2-3 years on coastal properties. Florida installers know which materials perform — marine-grade aluminum frames, stainless steel fasteners, and solution-dyed acrylic fabrics are minimum standards for any coastal installation.

HOA Landscape

A higher percentage of Florida homeowners live in HOA communities than almost any other state. Experienced Florida installers know how to navigate Architectural Review Board submissions, understand which products meet common HOA color and material standards, and help homeowners avoid costly revision requests.

Subtropical UV Exposure

Florida's UV index exceeds 10 (extreme) for roughly six months per year. Fabrics and frames that hold up in moderate climates can fade, crack, or degrade within two seasons without UV-stabilized materials. Florida installers recommend fabrics specifically rated for subtropical sun exposure.
